On the Record: Riker at Eight

Several years ago I started a tradition of interviewing the kids on their birthdays. By asking the children the same questions every year, we'll be able to see how their personalities and interests change (or stay the same).

Riker has just turned EIGHT and this is his sixth birthday interview.

What are you going to be when you grow up?
I don't know. Oh, I know! I would be an airplane pilot.

What’s that going to be like?
I would be able to fly around a lot. And I could see what all the controls do. People could have a good time while they ride.

What are your favorite toys?
The drone. I really like the Nerf gun you got. And I really also like the Lego train, the blue train. It's really amazing.

What is your favorite food?

Who are your best friends?
My best friends are Simon, Marko, Weston, Arthur and Blake.

What makes you happy?

What makes you sad?
You, sometimes.

When you dream at night, what do you dream about?
Um, I usually dream about a lot of different kinds of things. Like, for example, me, like, what I would do...if I had powers. I would do those things. That's what I dream about. And sometimes I even dream about what's going to happen in the next day.

What do you like to do with Daddy?
I like to go on bike rides with him.

What do you like to do with Mama?
I like to watch movies with you and I like to cuddle with you. And I like to cuddle with Daddy.

What’s your favorite color?
Red. And green. And even blue!

What’s your favorite book?
Diary of a Wimpy Kid!

What does Daddy do during the day?
Mm, he plays with us. And he works with us sometimes. Like when we were doing the chisel and when we were whittling.

What does Mama do during the day?
She does work around the house.

What do you do during the day?
Play with my toys.

What do you want to learn or do before you turn nine?
I really want to get better at drawing and sketching.
