Wombats

One of the upsides of announcing your departure from a place you've lived for many years is that friends finally get around to arranging visits to interesting places that they've been telling you about for years. And so it was that we were able to visit a wombat rehabilitation site with my friend and colleague, Adam.

After a lovely bush walk around Adam's parent's rural property, we visited their family friends just down the road, Phil and Leslie, who volunteer their time and resources to care for orphaned wombats.

We arrived at about 4:30pm so that we could get in on feeding time. We even had the pleasure of getting to hold the younger wombat which is not something you get to do every day!

Me too!

Feeding time for the older wombat. The younger one was bottle fed milk.

We joked that we really had to up the ante on this visit and provide some once in a lifetime experiences to Carl and Jan who, now on their fifth visit to Australia, have seen and done more in Australia than many Australians!

Thanks to Adam and the Machin's for a terrific experience!
