Minnesota Zoo

The last several days of our stay in Minnesota were spent in Minneapolis visiting with my brother and catching up with several dear friends.  One of those was Nancy who remains a friend even though I moved in as a nanny to her two gorgeous children some twelve years ago!  We decided to visit the Minnesota Zoo and we all had a great time.  Here are the highlights:

Boy loves technology!

The grizzly bears were awe inspiring and so much fun to watch.  The Minnesota Zoo is a conservation zoo so all the animals have spacious and appropriate enclosures making it a joy to visit.

Always good to catch up with old friends. Great to see you Nancy!

I have the most awesome girlfriends.  They still love me even though I go off to live on the other side of the planet for years at a time and when we do see each other, it's as if no time has passed at all.

The fabulous Miss Amy and our crew.

Ever gorgeous Katherine.

Jessica with brand new baby Corbin.  She's taken to motherhood with such grace, she's making the rest of us look bad :)

Amy and Katherine have been the source of much parenting wisdom over the past couple years and I'll always be grateful for their listening ears and gentle advice during tough times.  I was so pleased to be in Litchfield for the first weeks of baby Corbin's life so that I could pass some of that wisdom along to a new mama.

So many other wonderful friends in Minnesota too, but sadly I didn't manage to get photos with everyone.  I love you nonetheless!

Barn Party

Our stay in Litchfield was extended slightly when we heard that our friends Kristi and Tim were having a barn party.  Both they and the barn hold a special place in our hearts as we had our wedding reception in the loft of the barn on the night of the harvest moon back in September 2002.  We all put a lot of effort into cleaning and fixing up the barn for that night and now that it has a stage with lighting and a sound system, it's perfect for bands and DJs - in fact I'm pretty sure the coolest parties in Litchfield are all at the barn!

Just for fun, here's a flashback of the barn inside and out for our wedding almost a decade ago!

Since my friend Nicole was flying in from California for the weekend, we spent Saturday afternoon at my friend Jessica's house which meant that I was able to catch up with two of my best friends from high school. The photos below of the afternoon and barn party in the evening are all courtesy of the lovely and talented Nicole Jackson.  Thanks for sharing my friend - great to see you!

Then it was off to the barn party. We hired a babysitter for the evening and she watched our kids in the house while we listened to music and caught up with old friends.

The hosts, Kristi and Tim, play with their band, Right Lane Ends.

Nash Kato from Urge Overkill joins in for a set.

Our grapevine ball lights still hang from the ceiling.  As usual, an awesome party.  I still can't believe I stayed up until 4am!

A Quick Reunion

Near the end of our stay in Litchfield, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that my uncle and his family from Arkansas were in the area and planned to visit for a couple hours.  I don't get to see my dad's brother or his family very often as they live so far away (and so do I for that matter) so it was great to catch up with them after so many years and introduce them to my boys.

My uncle Doug and aunt Phyllis with my cousin Bethany and her daughter Isabella, my mom, Riker and I.

A Maze'n Farmyard

It's been nearly two weeks since we visited A Maze'n Farmyard near Eden Valley Minnesota but it was such a fun day that I had to post some of the great photos from the outing.

The farm is set on a beautiful property with lots of different barns and sheds...

...and lots of animals to love and pat and ride and feed.

Though how an albino wallaby ended up in rural MN is somewhat of a mystery.

There were also jumping castles, a tractor/train ride around the property, a giant slide, mini golf and tractors to sit on.

And as always, lots of love from (and for) Grandma Betty.
